The Center for
Ecoliteracy invites visionary educators to apply to participate in the
Center's 2010–2011 Schooling for
Sustainability Leadership Academy. The Academy will meet for four all-day
sessions, scheduled
for Thursday, October 14, 2010; Thursday, December 2, 2010; Thursday, February
10, 2011; Thursday, May 5, 2011.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- deepen their understanding of ecological principles and systems thinking
- explore ways to inspire their faculty and school community
- learn how to forge links between teaching and learning, greening the campus, improving school food, and expanding community relationships
- design projects to cultivate the knowledge, skills, and values that underlie sustainable living
Academy participants will work with leaders in the schooling for sustainability movement, including Fritjof Capra, Zenobia Barlow, and Ann M. Evans. Sessions will feature presentations by creative, inspirational educators and investigations of schools at the forefront of schooling for sustainability. Center for Ecoliteracy staff will assist Academy members in designing and implementing their projects and in documenting and sharing their work with others.
To ensure maximum interaction, enrollment is limited to 30 participants.
Requirements and Costs
As a prerequisite, participants must have attended at least one previous Center for Ecoliteracy seminar.
Participants are expected to attend all four meetings of the Academy and to complete assignments between meetings.
The registration fee is due before the first Academy session in October. It includes course materials as well as breakfast and lunch on the day of each session. The fee does not include prerequisite Center for Ecoliteracy events.
Schools that employ
applicants must agree to cover teacher substitute costs for the four days of
the Academy.
A limited number of scholarships are available for public school educators working in low-income communities. If you wish to apply for scholarship assistance, please indicate this need in the "Comments" section of your application.
