Insights and lessons learned from years of working with innovative and dedicated educators and change agents inform CEL-initiated programs. Rethinking School Lunch One of these programs, Rethinking School Lunch (RSL), includes - An online 175-page RSL guide - An ongoing essay series, "Thinking outside the Lunchbox" - A downloadable Model Wellness Policy Guide - Outreach efforts, including presentations to professional organizations and NGOs, technical assistance, and workshops for educators Rethinking School Lunch builds on the premise that hands-on experience growing and preparing food is a powerful way for children to discover that healthy food tastes good, and to learn about the cycles, seasons, other processes of nature, and the relationship between the health of natural and social systems. The planning framework of Rethinking School Lunch is being applied
across a public school system through the School Lunch Initiative at
Berkeley. Rethinking School Lunch continues the history of Center for Ecoliteracy support for organizations and networks committed to education for sustainability. Additionally, the Center is identifying a growing circle of nationally and internationally recognized thinkers and practitioners who share our commitments and contribute their expertise to our work. |
