Faculty for the Delicious Education seminar include:
Marilyn Crawford, is an education consultant specializing in secondary reform, with
an emphasis on closing the achievement gap so all students are college-ready when they
graduate from high school. Her organization, TimeWise Schools, works with districts
and schools across the country helping them use time and personnel with maximum efficiency
and effectiveness.
Eleanor Dougherty, has a long career in education as a teacher and service provider
with schools, districts and states. She was a teacher for twenty years in elementary
and secondary schools and taught in colleges as well. During the last fifteen years,
she has worked at the U.S. Department of Education and with national education organizations
that provide technical assistance. Currently, she assists districts and states with
professional development and curriculum development. She is the author of articles
and books on education.
Wendy Johnson, An active member of Green Gulch Zen Center since 1975, Ms. Johnson
is a founding director of the Organic Farm and Garden Apprenticeship Program at the
Zen Center and has worked for the last ten years to establish gardening programs in
Bay Area schools. Wendy has thirty years of hands-on experience with organic agriculture,
education, and Zen meditation training. She spends two days each week encouraging,
advising, teaching, training and mentoring our students and garden staff. Ms. Johnson
is the author of Gardening at the Dragon's Gate – a memoir
of the principals of an organic farmer through the mind of a meditator – to be
released in spring, 2008.
Carolie Sly, Ph.D. is the education program specialist at the Center for Ecoliteracy.
She holds a Ph.D. in science education from U.C. Berkeley. She has authored and coauthored
several publications, including The California State Environmental
Education Guide.
Dr. Sly has taught elementary school, operated a private high school and teen café,
and served on the faculty at San Francisco State University.
